Calcutta HC rejects Subhendus's plea to ban 'Sanhita Yatra'

In a significant legal development, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday, has dismissed the plea filed by opposition leader Subhendu Adhikari seeking a ban on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's 'Sanhita Yatra' scheduled for January 22nd.

CM Banerjee on Tuesday announced, that the rally will be held from Hazra Crossing to Park Circus Maidan. She further added that “Our people (referring to TMC workers) will take out similar processions at every community block in every district at 3pm on that day,”

She further clarified that she is not holding this rally to “counter anyone or protest anything”.

Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari filed a PIL petition in the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday seeking deferment of CM's "All-Faith-Rally" slated for January 22, and deployment of central forces in the state in view of the Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya on the same day.

While speaking about his petition yesterday,  Adhikari stated “Through the rally on January 22, she is trying to disturb communal harmony in the state. In every block such rallies have been announced when people of Bengal will celebrate the Ram Mandir. Life and property of the people are at risk."
